Last night I was sitting and watching tv with my hubby. Out of nowhere I felt like someone hit my head with a crow bar on the right side of my brain. It was odder because only two differnt sections of it. A friend who is a nurse said the brain can't spasm. It happend twice within a few minutes. I do not get scared unless its my husband's driving or snakes, but this deeply scared me! Then my throat had spasms. Any idea?

Wow, I have been having similar pains in my head for a year now, and this is the FIRST TIME I have found anyone who is experiencing the same thing! None of my doctors could explain it. I saw a neurologist for months, and he had me try a ton of different mediciens (some migraine medicines, steroids, etc.).

The interesting thing is that I also had a bout of dystonia back in February. Well, the neurologist told me it was dystonia, and gave me clonazepam, and after it began working, he took me off of it and told me that I didn't have dystonia. Heh.

Anyway, thank you for the reassurance here. I am going to as my doctor about primary stabbing headaches and indomethacin. :)

So, in other words you really did not have dystonia, but your neuro thought you did at first?
Please see my post about th occipital nerve below. There can be hundreds of reasons for head pain, so I would be doing some research, especially if you had a mistaken diagnosis of dystonia. at leats that is what it sound like to me, the way you explained it. if I am wrong let me know! LOL

Another reason for that kind if pain on one side or the other or both, could be that the occipital nerve is irritated in some way. My pain was just like you describe, so we had to do a few surgeries to get it uder control. Ask your doctor about the occipital nerve. Web MD has good basic info, and will show you where it is exactly. It runs from your neck up the back and around to the side of your head, but not all the way to the front. my doctors tended to write off all my headaches as migraines, so I started doing my research. I found a great surgeon, and he fixed me right up. The 3rd and last surgery was an actually cutting of the nerve to just deaden it. The left side of my head is still numb; and that was 6 yrs ago. Nerves do grow back, and this is starting to regenerate. by next spring it will be time to cut it again. Having surgery every 6 or 7 yrs is better than that blinding pain that used to take my breath away. Good Luck!

Tahoe, this is great information!! Thank you so much. I will look into the occipital nerve and try to find a doctor who will help me.

Yeah, apparently my doctor thought I had dystonia and then changed his mind. It was all very confusing for me, because he put me on medication for dystonia -- and it WORKED -- but then he recanted his diagnosis. I'm still unsure what caused the dystonia-like symptoms that I had for a week, and of course the head pains which I've had for a year now.
