Hi all ,

I am 26 yrs old . For the last 2 years I've developed allergies to all cold things be it weather , water , food , wind etc .
I am a software engineer , spends most of the time in Air conditionar , cant really sit for long near AC . 6 months ago I've a sinus surgery also done ..... breathing has improved .

In cold areas ( long time in AC or facing cold winds causes a bit of one sided head ache , some sort of dizzyness , my ears become red hot , body becomes abnormally hot ) . Life is really becoming pain .....

I've tried homeopathy , have been doing yoga asans also but with little effect .
over the years , I've not jogged or exercised . Now I feel I must start jogging if I want to be fit again .

Plz help if anyone knows some medication or ideas ?

Please reply !
Thanx

Hi Rajat,
I have never heard of anyone being allergic to "cold" before. How frustrating that must be for you!! I found a great informative page on allergies to cold here. There's a lot of helpful information. If you haven't already done so, I'd also recommend seeing an allergist. I think an allergist could better pin point the appropriate medication for your condition.
To find an allergist near you, see our WEGO Health Finding an allergist page.
Good Luck!!

Hi Rajat,
I am 22 years old and I was diagnosed with this 2 years ago. I know exactly what you are going through. This condition is called Cold Urticaria. I saw my allergist and the best he was able to give me was Claritain. Can't say they helped a lot but also can't say they didn't help. I took 2 instead of the perscirbed 1 and it did help for a while. Also, he prescribed the Epi-pen for me which I make sure to always keep with me because this allergy has no season, its all year long. My allergist calls it a disease, and just like every disease out there, it has no cure.
Anyway I really hope you feel better. I really hope I feel better too because God knows I have my break downs every now and then. When all my friends are out having fun and I'm unable to do that in fear of gettin cold.
~~Salam Hasan~~

Rajat -- Have you asked your doctor about Perennial Nonallergic Rhinitis (PNR)? It has symptoms similar to allergies, but they're triggered by very different things. Temperature change is one common trigger -- others include smoke, strong odors and pollution.

Hi Rajat

I was 25 when I developed allergies, that was in 1984. Back then what you call software engineering was called computer programming! OMG I'm a dinosaur!

Joking aside, do not fall into the trap of accepting your current state of health as true for you, for the rest of your life.

I no longer suffer from allergy attacks. I have regained control of my life not through drugs but through a holistic healing process called Health by Association.

Cheers

Rajat,

I'm sorry to hear you are dealing with this. I have heard of "cold" allergy. I live in Massachusetts and a poor child in my son's school has it. Can you imagine our snowy weather and a cold allergy?

I've spoken with the mom-and I'm sure you know this-but wearing layers, keeping warm, etc. have seemed to help her. She's able to go outside and lead an active life so long as she is dressed appropriately.

As Janeen has suggested-if you have not already-you should seek the advice of an allergist. Medicine has come a long way and they may have more ideas to help you.

Best of luck-sorry I can't of more help!
Ruth

Hi all !

Thank you all for the replies and concern .
I've been trying homeopathy since I started this thread ( almost 6 months now ) , but it has not helped except that my ears no longer becomes red hot , but the exposure to cold temperatures is still a nuisance .
As Lee said , I am still not accepting this state of life as for rest of my life as 2 years ago it was not the case at all .
I'll keep you all updated .

Thanx
Rajat

Hello Rajat,

I know it's been a year since you first posted with this trouble, but today I just ran across some really important information. It's important because it involves a brand new treatment for this condition, and also give some technical information about the genetic disorder that may cause it.

Called Cryopyrin Associated Periodic Syndromes (CAPS) "are members of a growing family of autoinflammatory diseases, which were originally referred to as Hereditary Periodic Fever Syndromes. The three known types of CAPS syndromes that have been identified at this time are: Familial Cold Autoinflammatory Syndromes (FCAS)-also known as Familial Cold Urticaria (FCU); Muckle-Wells Syndrome (MWS); and Neonatal-Onset Multisystemic Inflammatory Disease (NOMID)-also known as Chronic Infantile Neurological Cutaneous Articular Syndrome (CINCA) in many European Countries. " I encourage you to check out the link for further reading.

The company Novartis has a new biological medicine called Ilaris (canakinumab) which has been approved in Europe to treat adults and children as young as four years old with cryopyrin-associated periodic syndrome (CAPS). I'm not sure where you're located, but it might be worth checking into if your issues are really a problem for you.

You can read additional information about the drug and the types of autoinflammatory diseases it seems to be quite successfully treating here.

This CAPS Community link has some really great information about the differences between autoimmunity and autoinflammatory diseases.

How has your condition been over the past year?

I hope this has been helpful information. Please do let me know if you would like help finding any other information or connecting with others with this problem.
