What Do You Really Know About Folate?

What do you know about Folate? Folic Acid? L-methylfolate?

If you are a woman, chances are that you have heard that it is important to have adequate amounts of folic acid. If you are a man, you may have heard a thing or two about it's important qualities as well. Chances are, man or woman, you have heard recommendations for folic acid.

In women who are pregnant, folic acid is highly recommended as a measure to prevent neural tube defects. Did you know that it is not really the folic acid your… Continue

Online Screening Tools for Depression and Anxiety

“Depression is among the most treatable of psychiatric illnesses. Between 80 percent and 90 percent of people with depression respond positively to treatment, and almost all patients gain some relief from their symptoms. But first, depression has to be recognized.” AFSP (emphasis mine)

Recognizing depression...doesn't sound like it should be so difficult, but the reality is that it can be quite a challenge, especially when you are the one suffering.… Continue

Beyond Morning Sickness

Common knowledge is the term “morning sickness” and common is the woman who deals with it at some point in her pregnancy... But how common is the woman who deals with the more severe cases of NVP (nausea and vomiting of pregnancy) and then suffers further to the classification of hyperemesis gravidarum?

NVP (Nausea and Vomiting in Pregnancy) is stated in one source to occur in as many as 75-80% of pregnancies with up to 15… Continue

Weighing the Options: Taking Prescription Medications During Pregnancy

It seems to be common knowledge that most medications are off limits for women during pregnancy. Yet, it is also quite apparent that there are often medical conditions that need attention during a pregnancy that may require a woman to asses the risks vs. the benefits and sometimes make the decision to take a prescription medication despite any potential risks. How do we go about doing this? How does a woman put her mind at ease when confronted with these scenarios? What kinds of chances are we t… Continue

TX for the Tweet. I'm please to see that you have a passion for suicide prevention. It's my case too. To years ago I worked as communication coordinator for the Quebec association for suicide prevention (www.aqps.info).

I never see you post on Facebook anymore, so I figured I'd find you here. My old profile got deleted, so I had to start over. How are you doing... How's your family?

Sure thing, Amy. Catch up on One to Six soon-we have you posted as a link to both our blog and website!!
It's all in connection with mental health awareness, suicide, suicide survivors and breaking the stigma attached to it. The name of our group is inspired from the statistic that for every one suicide, six people are effected by it. The documentary, One to Six, will be released soon. We'll be sure to keep you posted!
By the way, how was your walk for AFSP?

Oh, Amy... I was born and raised in Kansas City, Mo. I lived right above the Plaza Area until I was 17 years old, graduated from High School and began my life's journey by heading off to Colorado. My favorite state. I used to visit KC 2-3 times a year, but now all my family members have passed, so I only go up once in awhile to visit friends. Perhaps we'll meet in person one of these days!

Sorry for the addition, but I didn't want to forget to share with you.

Amy, I want to publically thank you for your warm welcome. I appreciate it and feel very grateful to meet people who are understand and who want to promote the awareness of Chronic Illness/Chronic Pain. As a personal advocate for those who are seeking disability, I have found the greatest satisfaction of my life. I am always in the process of reinventing my life since I became disabled 8 years ago. I had to leave a career that I loved in the hotel business as a General Manager/Mangement Trainer that I had been involved for over 30 years. I did take a sabatical for 3 years to complete a 4 year seminary to become an ordained Interfaith Minister about 15 years ago. I have also had to retire due to my health from any church Pastoring, but I continue my service as an advocate and as a counselor for those suffering with PTSD-Anxiety/Panic Attacks and the reinventing of lives who are disabled.

Just a little more about me to share as we begin to get to know one another. Please share with me, as I hope everyone will, to let me know about your lives. Be sure to include your life passions and interests.

Until later!

May you be blessed well!

Thanks, Amy, I drop in here occasionally. I am registered at 100 mental health, BPD, depression and affective disorder sites and, since there is a life off the internet, I can only get here very occasionally---usually in response to someone's request.-Ron
