Deep Brain Stimulation for Depression

To what lengths would you be willing to go to rid yourself of major depression? Have you tried every possible solution or do you advocate for or know others who have? Personally, I still have some therapies to test out before I can say that I have truly tried them all, but there are moments of desperation. There are times when it feels like I have been going at this, living life with depression, for so long that I am… Continue

Developments in Ectopic Pregnancy Detection

Ectopic pregnancies can be difficult to diagnose, but new research shows that help is on the way. A study done in the UK shows that lower levels of a protein called activin-B occurs in women experiencing an ectopic pregnancy.

Ectopic pregnancies occur when the fertilized egg, or ovum, develops outside of the womb, typically in the fallopian tubes but also… Continue

Consider This: H1N1 Vaccine During Pregnancy

The news continues to come in regarding H1N1 and special populations at higher risk. Although there is not a shortage of information available, the news is constantly updating and the focus shifts, from panic to precautions to (in all seriousness) “should I get the vaccine?” As a health activist, I certainly do not want to add to any kind of hysteria but I believe it is important to be well-informed and to share that information.

Now that the vaccine has become available to high risk groups of… Continue

More than an Indulgence: Chocolate During Pregnancy

The news has been trickling in lately about the health benefits of chocolate. As if this isn't exciting enough, recently there has been scientific data suggesting women during pregnancy can benefit from the delectable treat as well. A Yale study suggests that women who eat chocolate during pregnancy are at decreased risk of developing preeclampsia.

Preeclampsia is a serious complication. Hypertension (pregnancy induced hyp… Continue

TX for the Tweet. I'm please to see that you have a passion for suicide prevention. It's my case too. To years ago I worked as communication coordinator for the Quebec association for suicide prevention (www.aqps.info).

I never see you post on Facebook anymore, so I figured I'd find you here. My old profile got deleted, so I had to start over. How are you doing... How's your family?

Sure thing, Amy. Catch up on One to Six soon-we have you posted as a link to both our blog and website!!
It's all in connection with mental health awareness, suicide, suicide survivors and breaking the stigma attached to it. The name of our group is inspired from the statistic that for every one suicide, six people are effected by it. The documentary, One to Six, will be released soon. We'll be sure to keep you posted!
By the way, how was your walk for AFSP?

Oh, Amy... I was born and raised in Kansas City, Mo. I lived right above the Plaza Area until I was 17 years old, graduated from High School and began my life's journey by heading off to Colorado. My favorite state. I used to visit KC 2-3 times a year, but now all my family members have passed, so I only go up once in awhile to visit friends. Perhaps we'll meet in person one of these days!

Sorry for the addition, but I didn't want to forget to share with you.

Amy, I want to publically thank you for your warm welcome. I appreciate it and feel very grateful to meet people who are understand and who want to promote the awareness of Chronic Illness/Chronic Pain. As a personal advocate for those who are seeking disability, I have found the greatest satisfaction of my life. I am always in the process of reinventing my life since I became disabled 8 years ago. I had to leave a career that I loved in the hotel business as a General Manager/Mangement Trainer that I had been involved for over 30 years. I did take a sabatical for 3 years to complete a 4 year seminary to become an ordained Interfaith Minister about 15 years ago. I have also had to retire due to my health from any church Pastoring, but I continue my service as an advocate and as a counselor for those suffering with PTSD-Anxiety/Panic Attacks and the reinventing of lives who are disabled.

Just a little more about me to share as we begin to get to know one another. Please share with me, as I hope everyone will, to let me know about your lives. Be sure to include your life passions and interests.

Until later!

May you be blessed well!
