More about me (my health interests and reasons for joining WEGO Health)
My name's Lisa and I am a recent Clemson University graduate who loves warm weather and the beach (although I can't enjoy it much here in Boston!). After obtaining a BS in Marketing at Clemson, I began my journey into the "real world" working as a SEO Executive and Health Activist. In my free time, I enjoy traveling, going to Patriots games, and trying every red wine under the sun!

Although my education has primarily been focused in Marketing, I gained a real passion for the health industry while working at a visiting nurse association. Although I have always hoped to become a nurse, I have never had the stomach to handle all the blood! It is my goal to use my marketing skills to bring the health community closer together.

Male problems are believed to be either solely or partially responsible in about 40 percent of all infertility cases - then why is it that male infertility can be oftentimes overlooked? I thought I would share a great NYT article Evaluating the Risks for Male Infertility where the author, Laurie Tarkan, provides five tips if you are facing male infertility:

Exercise: Boost or Suppress Immune System?

Whenever I come down with a minor cold, or soar throat I often wonder whether I should continue my exercise routine. My mom would always tell me "just rest, and get rid of that cold - the gym will only make you more sick!" But how accurate is this statement exactly? Can exercise truly worsen your symptoms, and if you feel under the weather, can exercise push you over the edge?

Interestingly enough, I stumbled upon an article… Continue

Navigating the Cold Medication Aisle: How to Choose the "Right" Medicine For You

It seems like ever since I came down with this terrible cold, I can't stop blogging about it! New health questions keep popping into my head! While visiting the drug store looking for an "effective" cold medication, my next topic for discussion came to light. I don't know about all of you, but when I hit the "cold medication" aisle of any pharmacy I immediately become overwhelmed. Box after box, each claiming something different - "fast acting relief", "non-drowsy", "multi-symptom", "anti-histam… Continue

What You Should Know About The Flu Shot!

Having just blogged about the return of that Stubborn Cold, it seemed appropriate to do some research on the flu shot: What is the flu shot? When should you get vaccinated? Who should be vaccinated? Who shouldn't be vaccinated? What is the effectiveness of the vaccine? What side effects should you expect? Where can you get a flu shot?

Hi Lisa,

Sorry for not responding earlier. While I joined WEGO Health a while back, I've been remiss in really digging in until now. So, I'm here for a few reasons. First, I'm professionally interested. I've worked in healthcare marketing and communications for many years and it's what drives me everyday. I'm particularly focused on heart health issues, and more specifically raising awareness for sudden cardiac arrest. I also have a deep personal interest in health, which comes partly from the passion for my work, but also from my life experiences. I had a preemie, born at 29 weeks and spent 94 days in the NICU at Mass General. This experience shaped me for life. My daughter is a very healthy 3 1/2-year-old today. I'm also a part-time caregiver to my father, an Alzheimer's patient. So, premature birth and Alzheimer's are two very near and dear topics for me. Lastly, a good friend, Gradon Tripp, recently joined your team, so I'm also here to support him and his work. He's a smart mind and you're fortunate to have him!

Looking forward to becoming a more active member of the community.

Best regards,
Carissa

Thanks Lisa, I am joining because my son has been diagnosed with Dystonia and I want to learn as much as I can about it so I can be an advocate for him. A dystonia support group organizer here in Colorado pointed me here and suggested I find Beka here.

Thank you for welcoming me here. I'm looking for information on healthy lifestyle, getting and keeping fit in mid-life and beyond. I'm also interested to learning more about female sexuality in mid-life and new drug developments for an enhanced and healthy sex life. So far, there is no Viagra equivalent for women to address sexual dysfunction.

Feel as though I'm at a dead end in my life and there is no way out....guess I'm supposed to talk about this in the group section, right, do not know all the proper "protocol" of discussion groups, blogging, posting, sorry......
