More about me (my health interests and reasons for joining WEGO Health)
I have more than 10 years of research experience and have worked in diverse fields, including protein biochemistry, nanomaterials and virology. I have a Ph. D. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, New York, and have worked at The Salk Institute and The Scripps Research Institute. I aim to translate my passion for science and love of writing into a career in science writing. I enjoy escaping to alternate universes in my favorite sci-fi books.

Natural ways to disinfect your home

My daughter was diagnosed with eczema when she was six months old. Since then we've been exploring ways and means to reduce her outbreaks. One obvious method is to reduce exposure to harsh chemicals. This includes soaps, perfumes, cleaning agents, laundry detergent.

Purging the plastics

My new mission in life these days is to eliminate all the plastics from my house. In case you somehow missed all the commotion, recently there has been a great deal of concern over the issue of BPA (bis-phenol A) and phthalates in plastics. Chemicals such as BPA and phthalates can leach out of plastics into any foods that they come into contact with and thus enter our body.

HIV numbers are rising

A CDC report on the number of HIV infections nationwide shows a 48% increase between the years 2005 and 2006. In its Surveillance Report the CDC said there were 52,878 new HIV infections in 45 states and the District of Columbia for 2006. In 2005, CDC reported only 35,537 new infections in 38 states and the District of Columbia.
