I think there is a connection. I had Lyme for 8 years, but I ran into a website called Beat Lyme Disease and it gave me a lot of insipriation, plus it's helped a lot with my own condition. I think Lyme bacteria effects 50% or more of the populatio...

Clarice, After stumbling upon an interesting article Predicting when it's time for early Alzheimer's patients to give up the car keys, I thought I would be best to follow up on this great discussion. As mentioned in the article, in a recent test...

More about me (my health interests and reasons for joining WEGO Health)
I have just graduated from McGill University and am a newly accepted masters student in the journalism school at Northeastern University. I am an identical twin and native Bostonian. What drew me to being an intern at WEGO is the fact that I have a younger sister who has struggled and suffered with lyme disease for the past six years. Now that she is on the mend and walking again (muscle atrophy and loss of motor skills being only two of the many symptoms she has faced) we, my family, have directed our attention toward awareness and prevention. We have currently attended a lyme documentary premier in NYC in which Marlena, my younger sister, was extensively filmed. I encourage everyone to to check out the link which leads to the preview for the documentary and keep an eye out for upcoming news about the film release at the Turn the Corner Foundation website, which funded the documentary.

A Child's perspective on Alzheimer's disease

Those who are afflicted with Alzheimer's disease and their caregivers typically occupy the spotlight throughout the disease's course; however, children are often left in the dark wondering what in the world is happening to grandma or grandpa. As we already know, Alzheimer's is a complicated condition, something we are unsure of ourselves. For a child, the disease is a labyrinth of unanswered questions.

Mayo clinic has offered a helping hand to parents already dealing with an Alzheimer's patient… Continue

Open Eye Pictures...something worth keeping your eye on

The film company responsible for the feature is Open Eye Pictures, a group of talented directors, producers, film technicians and editors devoted to making a difference globally with their creative skills. At this very moment, Open Eye pictures is in production of their latest film, Forget MeContinue

Alzheimer's--the connection to fertilizers, aluminum, and fluoride?

While meandering around the internet trying to find connections among Alzheimer's and other diseases, I came upon this article unwrapping some of the unknown stats and factoids about Alzheimer's disease and AD compared to its prevalence in other countries. I was quite startled as some of this information including bits about fertilizer, water content, and the problem with aluminum. I know the article was published in 2006, however I h… Continue

Lyme disease awareness for the summer months

Now that all the snow is gone and the heat has set in, the tendency is to move outdoors. However, lurking even in the trimmed, short grass of your back yard is a disease easier to catch than most imagine. In grassy areas that back up to woods, or yards that provide a walkway for deer and other foraging creatures, are also home to deer ticks--speck-sized harbingers of Lyme disease. Kids playing in the yard, adults gardening, or a simple stroll through the grass can give way to a tick bite, which… Continue

Alzheimer's and Lyme disease: a surprising connection

While attending a documentary premiere in New York City for the film Under Our Skin, in which my younger sister Marlena Connors (who has been struggling with Lyme disease for about six years) debuts, a large portion of the film was contributed to Dr. Alan McDonald’s research which revealed similarities and possible connections of Lyme and Alzheimer’s disease. Similarities between their manifestation sites in the brain and the type of spirochete bacteria which provide the blueprint for the… Continue
