I definitely will be getting both the seasonal flu shot and the H1N1 shot when it becomes available. As a person with asthma, and a volunteer in a nursing home, it's pretty important that I get one.…
I think I attempted to reply to this before, but school internet ate it ;).
My only tip to offer is the wrapping-a-scarf-around-your-mouth-and-nose thing. However, this is a challenge, if like me, you wear glasses, because your glasses end up foggi…
The FAAAFAAAA thing was freaking hilarious. I'm laughing right now and I just imagined it lol.
Definitely, the videos are great educational tools, though. I really liked how they broke them down into the severity levels--I think a lot of times that…
As an asthmatic, these videos were REALLY hard to watch, because, except for the severe attack, I KNOW how bad this feels. I had this desire to throw my Ventolin into the computer screen just to make these people feel better. I found myself with my…
I can't believe I didn't find this till now.
Yes, this is something I think about, for sure. However, through my blog, I don't think I give out a ton of information--at least, I try not to. It's definitely something I consider, though, and somethin…
"Are we there yet??"
I travel as much as I can, so I've got a few travel tips to share, and some that apply to travel packing lists. [You can read all of my "on the road" posts here.
. . . Shameless self promotion :)]
Through my blog, I've got lots…
The cough and cold always get my son wheezing. Make sure to drink lots of fluids and get rest too (even though you are in college). More "mom" advice :)
Janeen,
Thanks--these are awesome! Moms are always good for snack ideas :).
Still in the yellow zone, unfortunately, but I appear to slowly be trending upwards! I'm feeling pretty good, though, despite my 78% peak flow [10% higher than this morning…
I hope the prednisone helps!! My son was just on that a couple of weeks ago and he was hungry all time!
small containers of fruit
ziploc baggies of pretzels
Baked chips
carrots, celery, broccoli etc with hummus
trail mix
nut butter sandwich on…
Hi all,
Those of you who follow my blog will know that I started my first course of prednisone yesterday to attempt to get me out of the yellow-zone [thank you, germy university students who made me sick . . .]
I prepared myself by reading Daniell…
Hi Janeen,
I'm disappointed that there aren't any answers here! :( This is a really interesting thread, and a great topic of discussion for parents and caregivers of children with food allergies.
One suggestion I do have is cutting foods that are…
Another link I'd like to pass on is to Danielle of Life with these Lungs! at http://lifewiththeselungs.wordpress.com. Her attacks are more severe than mine are, and she often gives excellent description of the phenomenon in the "asthma attack" tag.
I am definitely more concerned about this than if I didn't have asthma. I got my first flu shot last year (my first flu season with asthma), and definitely don't regret getting poked! :)
Next Monday, my non-asthmatic friend and I are going for both…
More about me (my health interests and reasons for joining WEGO Health)
I joined WEGO Health to be a part of a positive community for people living with chronic conditions.
I was told I might have asthma a little under a month before my seventeenth birthday, although I personally had suspected it since three months earlier. I was told I definitely had asthma on October 2nd, 2008.
I think if it weren't for my diagnosis being so tedious and prolonged, and taking almost a year to get my asthma into some level of control, I wouldn't have gotten involved in asthma blogging and health communities like WEGO and others.
Along with asthma, I experienced seasonal allergies last summer (mid-July to the end of August). I have no serious food allergies, but I do have sensitivities to citrus fruits (especially oranges--they make my face burn), and aspartame (nausea, headache). I also have some degree of chemical sensitivity that I experienced before I developed asthma when exposed to fragrances, hair sprays, etc.

Hi kerri,
Welcome to WEGO Health and the Asthma and Allergy community. I'm glad that you found us.
I went over and looked through your blog and you have a lot of wonderful information there! I especially love that you have your asthma action plan on your side bar for others to see. Not all asthma suffers know that they should have an action plan. That really is a great educational link.
When you get a few minutes, take our Health Activist Quiz. I noticed that you said you aren't sure where you fit in yet and the quiz can help you narrow that down.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any question about WEGO Health or the site itself. I look forward to seeing you around the community.
