"After two years of research and development, RuzzMan LLC is pleased to announce the launch of LEDdim (TM) a patent-pending product that reduces the glare from LED lights on televisions, DVD/VCR units, laptops, desktop monitors, CPU's, sound system components and other consumer electronics.
LEDdim is a simple peel-and-stick solution to the distracting, annoying and often uncomfortable effect of the multiple LEDs found in most workstations and living areas. Discreet and elegant, these ligh…

Colorful twinkling lights at Christmas are a beautiful thing, but bright LED's at night time or when you suffer Migraine are a different story.
Because LED lights are considered a 'green' alternative to other lighting, LED's are overtaking us faster than you might think. Dash lights in your car, your local policeman's patrol car light bar, flashlights, decorative lights, computer and appliance indicator lights. Many people are not sensitive to them, but for some of us LED lights can trigger eve…

One of the minor reasons I began researching on the internet was because I hoped it would improve my brain function. I felt like I was living the old axiom
"If you don't use it, you'll lose it." A recent article has brought to light a study that seems to prove my efforts may not have been in vain.
The Research
TechRepublic reported Tuesday, December 1, 2009 that a
small UCLA study…

My story:
Despite a very active, outdoor lifestyle and (relatively) young age, I was diagnosed several years ago with full blown Osteoporosis. Finding it was an accident, but it led to trying several treatments that had side effects which could be serious. I soon learned how to manage it properly with exercise, diet and supplements and for the last couple of years have done fairly well without osteoporosis medication. However, with the intense pain of my autoimmune conditions (Lupus/Sjog…

The holidays are such a wonderful time to experience when we feel good, and a nightmare when we are in the middle of a Migraine.
Today I wanted to take a minute out to create an
index of some of my past
Holiday information, tips and recipes for Migraineurs. Health Activists - feel free to link back to any of these you think might be useful in your groups, or use them to inspire a conversation or post of your own!…

I'm a little late for Halloween, but I wanted to blog about a skeleton rattling around in the medicine cabinet of many headache, pain, epilepsy, psychiatric and other patients, and the startling fact is,
they don't even know it. Their nurses, pharmacists and doctors often don't know it. The skeleton may be affecting you and you might not even be aware of it, and it's likely that even if your doctor or nurses saw it, they wouldn't recognize it. Those who suffer it typically go undiagnosed.…

The regulatory gene RORB results in disruption of the body's circadian clock, and a recent research article has linked 4 different variations in the same RORB gene to manic depression (aka bipolar disorder) in children.
The journal
BMC Psychiatry reported that a recent test of almost 300 children resulted in the link, leaving the study's scientists to state "Our findings suggest that clock genes in general and RO…

For those on chronic opioid therapy, constipation is often much more than an annoyance - it can radically change their lives. Today there are at least 3 drugs being studied, in trial, or in use that can help this problem, without stimulating the bowel.
Relistor is an injectable drug I blogged about a while back (see
Treating Opioid side-effects with a new/old drug) that was recently put on the ma…

Do you know what caffeine actually does inside your body? inside your brain?
You know that it helps you to stay awake, but did you know that the effects inside your brain is actually cumulative? Those with sleep trouble and Migraine are especially at risk.
My analogy is the children's tale of Little Red Riding Hood - Adorable little red-caped girl skips thru the woods to visit dear old grandma, only to find that a nasty, hungry wolf has beat her there. The wolf dresses in grandma's clot…

Not all Migraine related discussions are found within the
Migraine group. Sometimes a patient posts something that relates to Migraineurs in another area of WEGO Health called the
General Forum.
Lately there has been an ongoing discussion re: a question posted by a Health Activist in the Dystonia community who was looking for answers to a frightening p…

I had heard this was coming, but never dreamed it would be so quickly.
A
groundbreaking new technology is being developed and tested by Novartis, and Pfizer has developed a similar system. Yes, it's true. Soon our pills may be texting or phoning us to remind us it's time to take another, as well as when we should call for our next refill.
What do you think of this technology?
At first glan…

I know that changes in seasons trigger my migraines. I know that changes in weather trigger my migraines. But can seasonal allergies have an affect on my migraines?
I've made it a point to walk/jog at least 3 days a week after the dropping the children off at school. I was not in the mood today and I wasn't feeling 100% but I decided to push myself to do it anyway. I decided that I would jog most if not all of 3 miles today. After a rough start, I seemed to settle into a nice pace. But I did no…

St. Louis University has announced it is beginning to recruit patients to investigate the connection between Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Post Traumatic Stress Disorders (PTSD) and the physical connections within the brain. As I understand the proposed study, the idea seems to be that an injury may create very minor changes in the anatomy/geography of our brains. Symptoms are widely varied but may include everything from Migraine to nausea, dizziness, newly occurring Epilepsy or even Dystoni…

We know there is a genetic component to Dystonia. We know there is a genetic component to Migraine. Why then, do some people have the genetic errors encoded in their DNA for these neurological disorders, yet never show symptoms? A common presumption is the description of
Variable Penetrance, but until now, we had no actual idea how...
"..many diseases can be triggered by a single gene, but the e…

The controversial anti-seizure drug Topamax (Topiramate) is widely used off-label as a Migraine preventative, often with great success. However, there are large numbers of hopeful patients who begin preventative therapy using topiramate without all the facts. Additionally, largely as a result of usually reliable sites with a fairly large amount of old (ergo misinformation) available, proactive patients may be going online and assuming they are getting the latest and greatest information availabl…
